Ellen Bonnifield

Ellen loves words and has been an avid reader all her life. Her diverse life experiences include a chemistry/math major, librarian, college algebra teacher to math-phobic adults, elementary teacher, and elementary art teacher. Writing for pleasure caught her unaware. As she described her experiences as a summer Ditch Rider to her husband, Paul, he urged her to write them so others could enjoy what she saw. The Ditch Rider Poetry continues to grow slowly. Her poetic endeavors have expanded to include broader nature experiences. Husband Paul, who continues to work as a contract cowboy, provides marvelous material for humorous cowboy poetry. Ellen and Paul contributed a local history column faithfully to “The Local “newspaper until its recent demise.

30-Second Essay on Spring

Spring arrived promptly,

Clad in ermine hat,

Alabaster gown,

White kid gloves and boots.

She piroted, skirt swirling.

A chestnut brown curl escaped,

Cascaded to her shoulder.

Gracefully she pulled back a glove

Revealing first one dainty pink finger

and then a second.

Her merry green eyes locked on me.

Slowly her right eye lid dropped

in a seductive wink.

She laughed, twirled, and disappeared

in a cloud of white.

Perhaps another day.

Winter

Winter
New sled, no snow
Forecast: warm, sunny days
Sold sled, bought bike, one ride, and then
It snowed!
